Dollar Tree had some cool things when I went in yesterday. I originally just went in to pick up some candles since my local Dollar Tree has started carrying soy candles). I’ve gotten into candles lately, until we can afford to get our carpet steam cleaned. At one time, I had a roommate with 2 cats, and we were babysitting 2 more, giving us a total of 7 cats. Luckily, those 4 cats have moved out leaving us with a more reasonable 3 cats. Unfortunately, our house now smells like cat. :/ So candles are masking out the smell until we get our house steamed cleaned (can’t wait!).
So, I picked up more then just candles when I went to Dollar Tree.
How cool and kitschy are those colored bottles? And the bamboo tiki torches (not sure if I’ll actually light these, since they’re from Dollar Tree; I’m debating putting candles in them instead; we’ll see).
My most exciting find though, was the mason jar and solar stakes. I filled the mason jar with colored stones I found at Dollar Tree, popped out the top of the mason jar lid, and slid in the top of one of the solar lights (removing the stake). It was the perfect size, to where I didn’t have to glue anything.
And it works! 🙂
Best part is the whole project cost $3 (plus tax)! If you had a mason jar on hand I suppose it could be even cheaper. I’m not sure how this stuff will stand up to the test of time being outside, but eh, since the whole project was super cheap I’m not really concerned.
Slowly but surely, I’m sprucing up our patio (we’re in a townhouse, so not much yard). I really love the mismatched, eclectic, ‘found item’ look, so I think I’m going in the right direction.
