It’s been years since I’ve bought cough syrup. Being pregnant for so long, moving around, being vegan… it always seemed by the time we had gotten around to taking it, it had expired. So now, I typically don’t keep medicine ‘on hand’. This reduces the wasted money on expired medications and our dependence. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with medicine, but I do believe we as a society tend to overuse medications (see superbugs).
Of course, just because I don’t take medicine, doesn’t mean I enjoy being in pain. So, I gather some things I already have on hand, and whip up this little recipe.
Natural Sore Throat Remedy
- 1-2 Teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar (Must contain ‘The Mother’; I like Bragg’s)
- 1-2 drops lemon essential oil (I use doTerra since the purity is matched by none, but you can also find at most health food stores. Click here to buy from my shop!)
- 1 drop protective blend essential oil (I use doTerra‘s On Guard. Make sure whatever oil you get is safe for internal use.
You can make the drink in a shot form (my preference) or a drink form (8 oz). Just remember you are drinking vinegar, so it doesn’t taste great. Some people also enjoy adding honey to their drink, but seeing as how we’re vegan, it’s not something I can recommend.
Combine vinegar and oils in cup or shot glass (preferably glass). Fill to top with water. Enjoy.
