As a teenager and young adult, I absolutely loved makeup and beauty products, constantly searching for the next big thing. Now, I still love natural skincare and makeup, however knowing more about the toxic ingredients that are in some products, I love making my own. And a good skin care routine is essential if you wear makeup. One of my favorite products to make (since it’s so easy) is facial toner.

Facial toner is used to complete the cleansing of the skin, removing dust, impurities, makeup and other things left on the skin after cleansing. Depending on the ingredients used, it can be moisturizing, calming, healing or drying. Toners are most often used at night after cleansing and removing any makeup, and in the morning before moisturizing.

This toner is great because it takes hardly any effort to make and it’s great for most skin types! It is astringent though, so extremely dry skin may not benefit from it.

Ingredients

Makes approximately 4 oz toner

  • Glass Spray Bottle or Jar
  • 4 Oz Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Chamomile – I get my herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Raspberry Leaf
  • 1 Oz Witch Hazel

Directions

Boil water and steep chamomille and raspberry leaf for approximately 25 minutes. Let cool and strain out herbs. Add witch hazel to mixture and shake to combine. Spray or wipe face with toner morning before makeup and at night after cleansing. Decrease use or stop if irritation or extreme dryness occurs.

Toner will last approximately 1 week; refrigerate to prolong life. Discard if any sign of spoilage occur.

I will often freeze small cubes in the freezer and dethaw when I run out.

What does your skincare routine look like? Any favorite DIY recipes?
