I received the following product to help facilitate my review; however all opinions remain my own. For more information, see my full disclosure policy.

I love cloth diapers – probably more than the toddler I’m currently cloth diapering loves them. I love the patterns, the designs, and the versatility. I love that many can be used from birth to childhood – saving the environment and my wallet. Something I’m not as fond of is cloth diaper laundry specifically the folding and stuffing of pocket diapers (not sure how I ended up with so many pocket diapers).

Best Bottoms takes all the best things about cloth diapers, leaves the worse (like stuffing pockets) for one super awesome unique diaper!

Best bottoms features an adjustable outer shell and absorbable insert that snaps into place. The inserts come in 3 sizes each with a different stitch color to ensure the overall diaper is trim, and 3 different materials. Their stay dry blend features layers of microfiber with a fleece overlay, a hemp/organic cotton blend, and bamboo. They also have doublers that have additional snaps on top, and overnight inserts. The shells are available in both snap and hook and loop (velcro) closure and can be worn from birth to 35+ pounds. They are made from a double layer of PUL meaning you can remove the insert, wipe down the shell, and snap in a new insert.

Ethan, my 14 month old who is about 33 inches tall and 24 pounds wore his on the lowest rise with 3 snaps left over on each side. It doesn’t have quite as many snaps as some of the other diapers in our collection, meaning diaper change time is a little easier (as easy as it can be with a squirmy 1 year old), plus I can reuse the cover multiple times before needing to wash it which is awesome.

The double leg gussets help guard against leaks, which is needed when you’re little one is so active. Sure enough, no leaks! Since I only have the regular inserts, we didn’t try these at night. Ethan tends to be a heavy wetter at night and definitely needs a booster or overnight insert. I’m excited to try those, as when his diaper does leak, it’s usually through the leg holes. The double gussets on these would definitely help prevent those.

We’ve been using the bamboo inserts that Best Bottoms makes and we love them! They consist of 6 layers of bamboo viscose. Bamboo tends to be a very soft fabric, and these inserts are no exception. They are by far the softest insert I’ve come across (I may have stroked them a little too long before our first use). Inserts are easy to prepare, simply wash and dry 3-5 times to achieve maximum absorbency. I simply tossed them in with whatever laundry I was doing at the time (we use the same detergent for both clothes and diapers), and they were prepped and ready for use in about 2 days.

At first I was annoyed by the idea of different sized inserts; but after thinking about it realized this was a great idea. As a first time mom when my son was born who was flirting with cloth diapering, I had no idea that newborn diapers were a thing – and my modest cloth diaper collection was huge on him; they leaked, they legs wouldn’t close enough and they were bulky, eventually causing me to abandon cloth diapers until he was older. By having smaller inserts available you can truly use one system to cloth diaper newborn to toddler. Standard inserts are huge and bulky on a newborn and are most likely what caused my problems early on. And since the covers grow with baby, you eliminate the need to buy a system of newborn diapers (that can only be used for a few months). I’m definitely picking up a few more of these for when our new baby arrives in March (translation: I have already picked up a few more).

Even though I’m doing laundry just as often (I don’t like cloth diapers sitting too long), I’m not doing quite as much and I don’t have to stuff as many pocket diapers. This alone makes me love the Best Bottoms system. Simply snap in an insert to a few diapers, and stack up the rest of your inserts for use later.
