Are you sick of calling out professional handymen out to do all your home repairs and maintenance for you? Sure, they will be able to do the job to a very high standard, but most of them charge an arm and a leg! If you want to really tighten your purse strings and save some money around the house, you should, ideally, be taking care of all your repairs yourself. The ones that you can do without any taught skills, at least! Here are some common household repairs that you need to be able to do without the help of a professional.

Rehang Doors

Most of us will have experienced sagging or sticking doors in our home at some point. This isn’t a major repair, but it can become very annoying indeed! Sure, you could hire out a carpenter to come and fix your doors for you, but why do that when you can sort this out yourself? First of all, try tightening the hinges. If that doesn’t work, you will just need to rehang the door in question. To do this, take off the door and position it back in the frame and jamb. If you rehang it back in its correct position, your problem should be solved! Once you get the hang of this, you could then try buying something like a bi fold door hardware kit and create your very own doors!

Fix Leaky Pipes

Do you always panic and call for a plumber as soon as you notice a leaky pipe in your bathroom or kitchen? Well, there really is no need! As long as you have the right tools in your toolkit, you will be able to fix this very common issue yourself. The most common reason why the pipe will be leaking is that it will have come loose. So simply try tightening it. If that doesn’t work, turn off your property’s water and replace some sections of it that appear to be leaking. Make sure you place a bucket under the pipes while you change them so that any water trapped in them doesn’t spill out onto the floor!

Replace A Light Switch

Lots of people tend to call an electrician to change a light switch for them as they get very paranoid that they might end up electrocuting themselves. As long as you are careful when you do change the switch, you shouldn’t feel too worried about this as the risk is quite low. Remember to turn off the circuit before you start to work on it. Take off the old switch with a flat screwdriver, and then disconnect the wires from the old switch and connect them to the new one. While replacing a switch is a safe job for you to do, you should be aware that any other electrical repairs should be done by a professional electrician.

So why call out professionals when you can do all of these jobs yourself? You will certainly be able to save a couple of bucks by doing so!
