I’ve always enjoyed straws. Nothing makes a drink look fancier than a pineapple slice, a little tiny umbrella, and a straw. Most of my reusable waterbottles contain a straw in some form, and when I’m out at restaurants I always have made sure to get a straw when possible. It’s not, however, something I’ve typically kept in our household however. It so wasteful. Did you know that plastic straws are one of the Top Ten littered products picked up on Beach clean ups? It never dawned on me my use of disposable straws outside of the home was just as wasteful. Plus, many straws still contain BPA – not something I want to expose my toddler or unborn baby too.

With Chefast’s reusable stainless steel straws, I can still use straws without creating extra waste or worrying about harmful chemicals. Chefast makes reusable straws that are safe, durable and ecofriendly. They come in 3 sizes, extra long 9.5″ perfect for 20 and 30 oz tumbles, extra wide 8.7″ long great for smoothies, milkshakes and other thick drinks, and the stand 8″ long which is great for lemonade, water, cocktails and pretty much everything! I received their mixed set, which includes 2 of each type of straw, a standard and wide brush cleaner, and a reusable carrying case.

The straws are very well made and durable. Although there are many types of straws on the market (plastic, glass, bamboo), this is the only one that was able to stand up to the beating of my 1 year old. This is huge for my family, since Ethan is at the age where if mommy and daddy has something, he has to have it to. And you just can’t reason with a toddler why they can’t repeatedly bang a glass straw against a table. So these little things have saved us a lot of tears. During transport, I tuck them into their little pouch and place it in my purse or diaper bag. In their pouch, they do tend to shift around a little bit, so it’s possible they may scratch each other, but it’s not generally something we had a problem with.

As they are metal, they are a little heavier than normal straws, or reusable straws of a different material. They don’t add a ton of weight to my purse, and I definitely didn’t notice when I carried them in the diaper bag.

Cleaning them is a breeze as they are completely dishwasher safe. The included brushes make cleaning the inside a lot easier. When I clean, I’ll run a soapy brush through the inside of the straw (paying more attention if it’s a thicker drink, such as a smoothie) and then place it in my dishwasher with the forks and knives. If I’m out while using them, I’ll just toss them into the wet bag in our diaper bag to avoid getting the other straws dirty. If you don’t have a wet bag, you could easily just dry the straw off with a napkin before placing it back in the bag.

They work great! I love having the size options to suit both what I’m drinking, and what I’m drinking from – particularly with smoothies. You don’t realize what a pain a small straw is until you have better!

Since the straws are metal, they will tend to take on the temperature of the liquid that is being drank from them. So it’s possible if you have a particularly hot drink that the straws themselves can get quite hot. I don’t typically drink hot drinks with a straw, so it wasn’t really a problem. I did try it with my tea on one occasion, but I simply waited until the tea was cool enough to drink before placing my straw in it.

Overall, the whole family loves these straws. It reduces waste on the planet, is durable enough for a toddler, and still pleasant to drink from. The set comes with a nice variety of sizes and the carrying case makes transporting them simple.
