When most people think of cloth diapering, they think of big squares of fabric, safety pins and complicated wrapping. Although prefolds and flats (the aforementioned squares of fabrics) can take some getting used to, they are still a popular and economical method of diapering. Snappis are designed to replace safety pins, making prefolds and flats easier to use and safer for babies and toddlers. No more popped safety pins poking baby.

I received this product at no cost to help facilitate my review, however all opinions remain my own. For more information, see my full disclosure policy.

Snappis are little pieces of colored elastic designed to hold cloth diapers closed. Standard sized ones for babies have been around and loved for a long time by cloth diaper enthusiasts, and now bigger, toddler sized snappis are finally joining the Snappy Baby family. Designed to fit little waists up to 30 inches it’s perfect for wiggly toddlers; no need to worry about a pin accidently poking them or breaking.

Snappis are really easy to use, you simply hook on the left side, then the right side then hook the bottom. The hooks grip onto the diaper holding it in place. The hooks aren’t necessarily sharp, but they aren’t dull either. They aren’t meant to be played with and it’s definitly something you’ll want to keep out of reach of your toddler.

You absolutely will need a diaper cover for these. Aside from the fact that prefolds aren’t meant to be worn without a cover anyways, curious toddlers may pull and explore the snappi if it’s exposed, leading to diaper accidents. My toddler is fascinated with this as I put it on him, however, once hidden in a diaper cover, he leaves it alone.

Snappis greatly speed up the diapering process if you’re using safety pins. And as all paarents know time is precious to toddlers. Simply hook one side, the other, and then the bottom. It can even be done one handed. Families that are use to other styles of diapers (pocket, all in ones, etc), may notice that this style of diapering take a few seconds longer, but that’s mainly due to folding rather than the snappis. Again, they are way quicker than using a safety pin.

Snappis can be purchased on Amazon.com, the Snappi Baby website, or most places where cloth diapers are sold.

Snappis are a great addition to any cloth diapering family, and I’m giving away a pack of Snappis to 2 readers!

I haven’t tried folds on actual babies or toddlers yet, so I’m not sure what my favorite will be. I think I like origami for a flat, though.

I would actually use the snappy on my snap less fitteds which fall off without some kind of fastener. Lol.
