No matter how careful you are, there’s always going to be a time when you’re little ones get sick. Let’s face it, kids and always going to be kids, and you can’t always trust them not to get themselves dirty, messy or otherwise kind of gross. Whether it’s something short lived or something more serious, kids are going to get sick, and there’s only so much that you can do about it. The most important thing for you as a parent is to make sure that you’re taking the best possible care of them when they do. To help make that entire process easier, here are just a few things that you can do to help look after your little ones in the event that they do end up getting sick.

Take time off

You’re not always going to be in a position where you can take lots of time off work in order to look after your kids but, if you can, it’s a good idea to at least take some time off. Your kids are going to probably be feeling pretty needy when they’re under the weather, and they’re definitely going to want a parent around to look after them. You might need to leave them with a friend or relative, and that’s fine, but there’s nothing like having a parent around to make a child feel like everything’s alright.

Forget about chores

It’s always important to keep your house clean and tidy, but when your kid is feeling sick, then they should be your priority. Even if there’s washing up that needs doing in the kitchen, don’t worry about it. Cuddle up with them on the couch, find a nice movie on ShowBox and help to keep their mind off how they’re feeling for a while. The dishes aren’t going anywhere, and you can always deal with them later.

It’s okay to spoil them

When your kids are feeling sick, it’s okay to let the rules slide now and then. Maybe you’re usually pretty strict about TV and video game time; there’s nothing wrong with giving them a little extra when they’re feeling horrible. After all, nothing helps when you’re ill like a little extra comfort time. There’ll be plenty of time for worrying about healthy snacks and being active when they’re feeling better. For now, it’s okay to spoil your kids a little bit.

Get as much rest as you can

Your kids are probably going to be pretty exhausted, and you might be tempted to use the time when they’re sleeping to get stuff done, but don’t forget that you need to rest as well. Looking after a sick child can be pretty darn tiring, and you don’t want to end up burning yourself out trying to deal with everything at once. If you’re happy and well rested then you’re in a much better position to take care of your little ones when they need you the most.
