We all think our children are gifted and special. But, all the great musicians, the legends, the authors, the world leaders were children once. They all had parents and do you know what that means? It means that some of us…are right. When you look at your child singing in front of the mirror, you might well be seeing the next Justin Bieber. Except, you know, hopefully without the career spiral and the scandals. The point is that there’s no way to tell whether your child is the next star. Or, is there?

True Talent

Put your rose colored spectacles away for a moment and really listen to your child singing. Or, read their writing. Is it completely different to anything you’ve ever heard or read before? Is their artwork out of this world? The best way to figure that out is to get an unbiased opinion. You need someone to see their talent who has no personal interest in your child. This might be one of their teachers, a family friend or really anyone. As long as they are not biased and have no reason to lie you may discover your child has true talent. Just be careful who you ask. Some kind hearted souls will simply humor you.

Put Them Out There

If you really want to find out if your child has talent you can put them out there. You can let strangers see what they have to offer. Obviously, there are easy ways to do this and other possibilities that are more challenging. For instance, if your little one loves writing you can encourage them to enter writing competitions. You can make sure they feel as though their work is good enough to win.

If the talent is more visual or vocal, it might be worth considering putting them online. However, be warned there will be blunt, honest feedback. There will also be people who are determined to hurt you and your child emotionally. You need to be prepared to be hit hard with criticism even if your child does have talent. Don’t let them enter the online arena without your guidance. They will certainly need your support.

Promotion

If you’re convinced this isn’t just parental pride, you can promote their talent using a company like NationWide Disc. You can produce and promote content surrounding your kid’s talent like a CD with their songs on it. You can then try and sell it online or in the real world. Who knows, you might gain the interest of radio presenter who could broadcast your child’s CD. From there, who knows how far things might go.

Don’t Become A Pageant Mom

What this means is that you shouldn’t push your kid if you have more interest in it than they do. If they’ve never expressed interest in being famous or performing in front of people, don’t push them. Remember, you want your children to live their own life. You don’t want to push them to try and live your dreams instead.
