Hidden Health Hazards: Forgotten Places You Have Neglected to Clean

Sometimes it can feel like all you do is clean. Areas of your home such as the kitchen and bathroom need regular cleaning. However, even when you clean your home thoroughly, you can neglect certain areas. There are places and things you just don’t think to clean, often because they’re out of sight. You might occasionally think to yourself that you really should get around to cleaning something. But if its dirtiness isn’t staring you in the face every day, it’s easy to put it out of your mind. However, your home could be unhealthy if you neglect to clean these places. Don’t forget to take care of the things below to ensure your home is as clean as possible.

Air Duct Systems, Air Conditioners and Fans

The quality of the air in your home can make a significant difference to how healthy it is. You could be breathing in all kinds of dust and debris if you’re not careful. It can be easy to forget to clean some of the areas that will spread unhealthy air. There’s your property’s air ducts, the air conditioning system, and even ceiling fans. All of these could spread dust and bacteria if you don’t keep them clean. It might be high time you looked into air duct cleaning or even just dusted off your fans. You’ll create a healthier home with better ventilation and fresher air.

Chimneys

If you have working fireplaces in your home, it’s essential to know how to take care of them. It’s not as important if you don’t light fires, but if you do, it’s vital that you clean out the chimneys. Failing to do so could result in the chimney catching fire. You should hire someone to come and clean out your chimneys at least once a year to clear out the soot. You could do it yourself, but it’s much easier to have a professional do it. It will also help to clear anything that may have fallen down the chimney, such as birds nests.

Kitchen Appliances

There are some kitchen appliances you don’t think about cleaning thoroughly. But you might be horrified if you take a peek and see what they look like inside. For example, your toaster can collect crumbs in all its crevices, making it both less efficient and hygienic. You might clean the primary parts of your kitchen appliances. But it’s the forgotten, hidden parts that you might miss. For example, there’s the refrigerator coils, dishwasher drainage, and the interior of your oven.

Curtains and Blinds

We hang up our curtains and blinds and often forget how they can get dirty too. Have yours been there for years without ever being cleaned? It’s often easier to see if blinds need cleaning, as dust can collect on them visibly. Wiping them down regularly helps to keep them clean. You should make sure to take curtains down too so you can wash them. Some people also vacuum their curtains to keep them dust free.

Try to do a thorough clean of your home now and then so you can catch any places you usually miss. It will help to keep your home cleaner and healthier.
